Explore the differnt scales of dollhouse miniatures from 1:6th scale to 1:144th scale with our new visual tool.
1:6th Scale
1:6th scale is one of the larger miniature scales, where 1/2 inch represents 1 foot in real life. This scale is popular for action figures and fashion dolls like Barbie. You will find one sixth scale used for things like toys or collectible figurines.
1:12th Scale
This is the most popular and widely recognized dollhouse scale, where 1 inch equals 1 foot. You'll find that most dollhouse hobbyist, collectors, and crafters use this scale for their projects. This scale strikes a balance between detail and practicality, as even a 1:12 scale dollhouse can be quite large.
1:24th Scale
1:24th scale (Commonly called Half Scale) is as described, half the scale of 1:12th. One inch in miniature is equal to two feet in real life. This scale is less common than 1:12th as it is smaller and can be more challenging to work with. However, it is still used by many dollhouse hobbyists and miniaturists who want to create smaller, more detailed projects. The main upside of this scale is that it takes up less space and its growing in popularity.
1:48th Scale
1:48th scale (Commonly called Quarter Scale) is a tiny scale where one inch in miniature is equal to four feet in real life. This scale is used by some model railroaders, general diecast models, and construction toys. It is less common in the dollhouse community, but still has a foothold enough to be recognized and in turn admired. Dollhouses use things like furniture, accessories, and decorations, and these can be harder to make in quarter scale. Larger things like industrial equipment or vehicles work better with this scale.
1:144th Scale
1:144th scale (Commonly called Micro Scale) is the smallest scale on this list. One inch in miniature is equal to twelve feet in real life. The main place you see this scale used is a dollhouse within a dollhouse. This works well because from the perspective of a 1:12th scale miniature, 1:12th scale is 1:144th scale for us. 1:144th scale dollhouses are quite common but 1:144th scale furniture and accessories are less so. This scale is also sometimes used in model railroading and architectural models.
